Welcome to a local chapter of the National Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc. The STAR Chapter is completing the second year since we merged the Panhandle, Greater East Texas, El Paso, Rio Grande Valley, Greater West Texas, and South Central Texas Chapters. The El Paso Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association began as a family support group of six members, meeting for the first time in June in 1981. Virginia Fisk, Grace Braly and Sylvia Rodsky are considered the original Founders of this organization. They met to share feelings, concerns and to do some mutual problem solving about a dreaded, little known illness called Alzheimer’s disease. Within a year, the El Paso Chapter was serving Alzheimer’s patients and their families with programs, family support, education, public awareness, advocacy and support of research.
